It takes courage to blaze new trails, disrupt the status quo and change the world. As founder of OceanBased Perpetual Energy, I am proud to lead a team of courageous trailblazers in challenging global dependency on fossil fuels and providing a game changing, clean energy alternative in the form of ocean current energy.
In the U.S., burning fossil fuels to produce electricity dumps 2 billion tons of CO2 into the environment every year and is the largest source of heat-trapping pollution. We can no longer conserve our way out, drill our way out or bomb our way out. We must innovate our way out.
Reducing harmful emissions and curbing global warming is no longer simply an option, it is a necessity. Each year, scientists learn more about the environmental, economic and health consequences of polluted air and rising temperatures. In the search for clean, sustainable alternatives, no other form of renewable power can match the consistency and volume of ocean current energy from the Florida Gulf Stream. While solar, wind and tidal energy are intermittently limited by weather-related variables, ocean currents offer perpetual, 24/7/365 availability of ocean current energy.
Scientists have studied the extraordinary potential of ocean current energy for many years. Now, after 10 years of research and development, the OceanBased team has confirmed its viability for America’s power grid and other end users. As a vital piece of the renewable energy puzzle, ocean current energy will have a significant role in moving toward a world without fossil fuels.
We are privileged to work with the Southeast National Marine Renewable Energy Center (SMNREC) at Florida Atlantic University, one of the three U.S. Department of Energy–designated centers established to accelerate and enable commercialization of marine renewables. Our SMNREC partnership continues to help craft our plan for the future.
Time and again, my life’s journey as an entrepreneur has shown me that my greatest satisfaction has come from solving problems which at times seemed insurmountable.
OceanBased Perpetual Energy has the technical, financial and professional resources to make power derived from Florida’s Gulf Stream a reality, but the most important element of all is our determination to make it happen. The future of the Earth depends upon it.
